Please feel free to contact us to be on the waiting list for a specific goat(s) or a goat from a specific breeding(s) and we will let you know if we end up with what you are looking for.
-
Our Facebook page, Crooked Oak Farm of SC, will provide the most up to date information regarding what is available. Our goats are sold in order of deposit received.
-
A $50 deposit is required to reserve a specific goat. I ask that you specify some things that you are looking for in your goat and what purpose they will serve. If we do not have a kid available that meets your stated criteria, your money will be refunded or you can transfer your deposit to a kid from the next year (deposits are otherwise non-refundable). If we have a kid that meets the criteria laid out by you at time of deposit and you choose to wait until the next year your deposit for the next year will be dated as the day you chose to wait.

-
We contact people on our waitlist from oldest deposit to most recent. Once the wait list has been contacted for their pick, we will post available kids on our Facebook page.

Deposits are accepted by PayPal or Venmo ONLY. PayPal deposits MUST be sent Friends and Family/Personal. If they are sent in any other way that results in fees being charged, we will refund your deposit. The remaining balance must be paid IN CASH at pick up. Stress is a very common condition in goats of all ages when moved from one farm to another. Illness can occur if the goat is not properly handled or treated. Stress is a serious health concern for goats; minimizing stress levels is key to good health.

-
We will not be responsible for any stress or illness of any kind after the animal leaves our farm. However, we will be available for questions concerning any sickness that may arise. We cannot guarantee how any goat will develop. Even goats that have been bred with the very best genetics carry no guarantee about how they will mature.

New Owner Information
-
Due to not monitoring the care received once leaving our farm, we cannot guarantee goats once they leave the property, unless the goat is proven by a veterinarian to have a defect that would have been present prior to selling. In that case, we will replace the goat after the return of the original goat's registration and within 12 months of purchase. Refunds will not be given, only replacements of comparable quality.

-
When taking kids (or adult goats) home, we recommend keeping them in a small, escape proof area for the first few days until they are acclimated to their new surroundings. Use caution when moving them outside of an enclosed area.

-
If not weaned, kids will go home on goat milk. You will be given enough goat milk to slowly transition to whole cows milk. We do not recommend replacers of any kind or goat milk from untested animals. If you choose either of those options, we will not be available for advice on further care. We use red Pritchard teats and suggest buyers having several on hand when bringing home goat kid(s). **NEVER FEED WATER FROM A BOTTLE. ONLY ALLOW YOUR GOAT(S) TO DRINK WATER FROM BUCKETS, ETC.**

-
When buying a bottle kid, please follow our directions exactly. Some goats go home eating more than others, so there is not a one-size-fits all description of how to feed bottle goat kids. Typically, kids work their way up to 40-60 ounces per DAY, divided between 2-4 bottles depending on the availability of the buyer. No matter how much the kid is eating when it leaves the farm, the buyer needs to be sure to make any changes SLOWLY over time. Any abrupt changes will cause unnecessary stress to the kid. Milk should be given warm unless otherwise noted.

-
Since kids leave fairly early in life, they usually have been recently disbudded. Although it looks terrible, typically buyers have no problems with the disbudding sites. Overtime, they will heal and be unnoticeable. Infection can occur, however it does not happen often. If you suspect there may be issues with a disbudding site please contact us.

-
We suggest you decide on how you are going to care for your goats medical needs (traditional vs holistic) and stock up a medical kit prior to bringing goats home. Here at Crooked Oak Farm, we take more of a holistic approach for the health of all of our farm animals.

If you are purchasing a buckling as a wether, it is up to you, the buyer, to contact us to make arrangements when the buck is of age. If the buyer does not contact us in a timely manner and the buck becomes too old to wether by the banding method, the buyer will have to make other arrangements. A buck sold as a wether is never intended to be used as breeding stock and we are NOT responsible for the animal if you choose to keep it intact. There will be NO replacements given if a buck sold as a wether cannot reproduce.

-
Please be sure to provide adequate minerals or feed that contain ammonium chloride. Follow the nutrition requirements listed in the next section. Do NOT feed your wether chicken food, corn, or any other feed not specifically for goats. This is the best way to prevent urinary calculi. Please research this if you are not familiar with it.

-
For BASIC goat nutritional requirements we suggest a goat specific feed, we use Carolina Choice & Kalmbach feeds here. The goats are on Carolina Choice Meat Goat & Kalmbach Goat Granola as a top dress. As time goes on, you will have to research and feed what works for you in the amounts that work for you. All goats need clean, fresh hay at all times. Water is a necessity. Even kids on a bottle at a few days old need to have access to hay, feed, minerals and water. We feed Coastal Bermuda Hay free choice and feed daily rations of Alfalfa Hay.

-
Goats need free choice minerals. We offer a Mineral Buffet that consists of 20 individual minerals . We do not suggest the use of mineral blocks. We recommend researching goat specific minerals to fit your herds needs.

-
Occasionally, goats get lice. This usually happens in the spring, but can happen anytime. While they can be life threatening if not treated, it is normal. External parasites can come in on straw, bedding, shavings, or other goats. Do not be alarmed if you notice lice on your goats, but treat them as soon as you see them. We recommend checking for lice at least twice a month during Winter/Spring, and at longer intervals during the warmer months.
